The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse would like to recognize 13-year-old Ikey Rozehzadeh as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The Jewish Educational Center, Yeshiva of Elizabeth, eighth grader is averaging 27 points per game. Rozehzadeh was named his team’s MVP at the Swish for Sderot tournament and helped his team win the West Orange league championship game by scoring 31 points. When asked about Rozehzadeh, Coach David Mandel told the JLNJ “Ikey relentlessly attacks the basket and is an intense competitor.”
Ikey, yasher koach on this honor and another great season. Who is your role model and why?
My father, because from a young age he’s always taught me to keep trying and never give up and since he escaped from Iran he has taught me to appreciate life and everything I have.
What is your favorite sport?
My favorite sport is basketball.
What is your greatest sports accomplishment?
When playing for my town team against a 12-0 team who we were supposed to get killed by in a championship game, when I scored 34 points and took leadership after we were down 20 at halftime and brought the team back.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
Carmelo Anthony.
What is your pregame routine, if you have one?
My pregame routine is just lots of stretching, shooting around and preparing myself for the game.
What is your earliest sport memory?
When I was in sixth grade I played on the eighth grade soccer team and had 18 goals, the most goals on the team.
What do you like to do when you are not playing sports?
Watch sports.
What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?
The best thing about being a sports star is to show others that with lots of practice good things happen.
