On the heels of last week’s big win, the Teaneck TBO 10U baseball team continued its strong start to the season with a big 29-8 victory against Fort Lee. The mercy rule-shortened, four-and-a-half-inning win brings Teaneck to 3-0 and they sit atop the Northeast Bergen All-Stars (NEBAS) standings with five regular season games left to play. The game was a great team effort as 39 of 48 Teaneck batters reached base.
After Fort Lee scored one run in the top of the first inning, Teaneck stormed back with 10 runs in the bottom of the inning and never looked back. Teaneck used great hitting and aggressive base running to take the commanding lead highlighted by a two RBI inside-the-park HR by David Wilbur, a three RBI triple by David Siev, a two RBI single by Ezra Block and RBI singles by Aiden Merkin and Shai Zaretsky.
Teaneck added two runs in the second inning after Caleb Block hit a leadoff triple and then stole home plate. Zaretsky hit his second RBI single driving Siev across the plate. Teaneck added two additional runs in the third inning after loading the bases with walks, a Nathan Demby hit-by-pitch and an RBI single by Merkin. The game busted open in the fourth inning as Teaneck scored 15 more runs capped by Caleb Block, Gideon Apter, Elan Rabbani, Noam Rabbani, Gavi Yaros, Benjamin Chetrit, Merkin and Avi Pasternak RBIs. Up 29-3 at the bottom of the fourth inning, Fort Lee took one final at bat where they scored five runs to bring the final score to 29-8.
David Siev recorded the win in his third start of the season, pitching two innings and dealing out four strikeouts. Pasternak continued his command of the mound in two innings of relief and Merkin closed out the game. Zaretski and Chetrit had a great game behind the plate ensuring that Fort Lee runners had to earn every base.
