The Humble Toast Sportstar of the Week: Allie Caplan

The Jewish Link and The Humble Toast would like to recognize Allie Caplan as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The 7-year-old, is a superstar on the “Blaze” soccer team in the Mountain Top League in West Orange. She averages 6-7 goals every game helping her team to weekly victories. She has so much energy and determination when she plays.

Allie, congrats on being recognized as this week’s Sportstar of the Week! Who are your role models and why?

My role model is Harry Houdini. He was such a great magician. The trick I liked most was his vanishing elephant trick. In sports, my role models are the women on the United States Women’s National (Soccer) Team, who win lots of championships and inspire me to work on my skills. I hope to play for them one day!

What is your favorite sport?

I love the game of soccer. I am much better at controlling a ball with my feet than with my hands. I have worked hard at improving those skills, and it has led to me scoring at least a few goals each game

What is your pregame routine?

Before my games, I usually practice crossing, which is a pass towards the center of the other team’s goal. I also jog around the field to prepare my feet for playing. I also love to pump up my teammates with cheers and lots of positive energy before we all walk onto the field.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment?

My greatest sports accomplishment was a soccer game where I scored seven goals. That was my best game ever! I hope to beat that number of goals I score in a game sometime.

Who is your favorite athlete and why?

Jalen Brunson of the New York Knicks is my favorite athlete. He is a great player, and it was so fun watching him on TV leading the Knicks during the playoffs this year!

What is your earliest sports memory?

I started playing soccer in kindergarten and actually scored my first goal that season.

What is your funniest sports memory?

The funniest memory I had on the soccer field was when the other team kicked the ball into their own goal. One of their players was trying to go around me when I was playing tough defense close to their goal.

What is your favorite sports memory?

My dad, brother, and I started watching Seton Hall college basketball games this year. They won every time we went to see them play in Newark, and we actually got a chance to meet their players at a Devils game a week after they won the NIT championship. They were so tall!

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?

When I am not playing sports, I love to color in my room before bed with markers. I especially like to draw animals. I also enjoy playing in the park with friends, especially on the monkey bars. I love watching funny animal videos on YouTube with my family.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

The best thing about being a sportstar is how happy I make my team and family when I score goals. I have only lost one game.

The Humble Toast Star of the week will receive a $25 gift card to The Humble Toast. Please send nominees for an upcoming The Humble Toast Jewish Link Stars of the Week to [email protected].
