The Jewish Link and The Humble Toast would like to recognize Nomi Green as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The seventh grader at The Rosenbaum Yeshiva of North Jersey (RYNJ) was one of the many stars on the RYNJ Jaguars girls soccer championship winning team. When asked about Nomi, RYNJ Middle School Girls Principal Morah Cindy Zucker told The Jewish Link, “Although small in stature, Nomi has a very large presence on the soccer field. Her consistent, excellent play in every game was one of the key factors that contributed to the Jaguar’s championship season. Nomi is a true team player, both on and off the court whose kind, warm personality is appreciated by her teammates, teachers and friends.”
Nomi, congrats on the championship and on being recognized as this week’s Sportstar of the Week! Who is your role model and why?
My role model is my uncle Dan who unfortunately passed away a few years ago. He always had a smile on his face, which put a smile on my face. He also loved sports, just like me, and he even played in the Special Olympics.
What is your favorite sport?
The sport I love most is soccer. I’ve been playing soccer ever since I was a little kid and enjoyed every second of it. The reason I love soccer so much is because I enjoy being part of a team, making new friends and scoring goals.
What is your greatest sports accomplishment?
My greatest sports accomplishment was helping the RYNJ Jaguars win the soccer championship. My team and I worked really hard and because of our team effort we were able to succeed.
What is your earliest sports memory?
My earliest sports memory was when I was very young and I tried out for the Teaneck FC travel team, and I didnt make the cut. That whole year I kept on practicing and when I tried out the following year I made the team!
What is your weirdest sports memory?
My funniest sports memory happened after my team and I won the RYNJ championship and my whole team ran into the middle of the gym cheering after the game and I fell flat on my face.
What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?
When I’m not playing sports my favorite thing to do is go hiking with my family and our dog Kobe, or going shopping with my friends.
What is your favorite sports memory?
My favorite sports memory was when my dad surprised my siblings and me and took us to a Red Bulls playoff game. I remember cheering for the Red Bulls and having a lot of fun.
What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?
The best thing about being a Sportstar is being able to help my team win a championship!
The Humble Toast Star of the week will receive a $25 gift card to The Humble Toast. Please send nominees for an upcoming The Humble Toast Jewish Link Stars of the Week to [email protected].
