The Jewish Link and The Humble Toast would like to recognize Racheli Wechter as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The senior at the Naaleh High School for Girls displays a tremendous amount of talent on both the soccer field in addition to the volleyball court. Naaleh High School and the Teaneck Travel soccer team are privileged to have her as a player on their teams. Classmate Elisheva Kelsen told The Jewish Link, “Racheli’s midot both on and off the field only add to her incredible skill while playing the game. Racheli loves to spread her talent and passion for soccer to children by also serving as a youth coach for the Teaneck league.” Naaleh Eagles Coach Eileen Schwartz added, “Racheli is an excellent volleyball player. She plays with heart and gives it her all—every play. She’s a pleasure to coach.”
Racheli, congrats on being recognized as this week’s Sportstar of the Week! Who is your role model and why?
My parents are my role models. Both of them are so selfless and support me in everything I do. They always make sure that I am able to participate in any sports that I want, and I’m so appreciative of all they do for me.
What is your favorite sport?
My favorite sport is soccer. I’ve been playing since first grade and have loved it ever since.
What is your pregame routine?
My routine is stretching and doing drills with teammates.
What is your greatest sports accomplishment?
My greatest sports accomplishment was when I went to soccer camp and won multiple awards including the sportsmanship award, the MVP award and I won a Coke soccer ball for winning a game of Lightning.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
Ben White. I’m a huge Arsenal fan and he’s one of their best defenders. I love watching and learning from him since I am also a defender.
What is your earliest sports memory?
My first season I played soccer, I only played goalie. I have a lot of memories of standing in the goal being really bored, and having someone take a shot on me and scoring. I wasn’t the best goalie.
What is your weirdest sports memory?
One time I got hit in the back of the head three times in one soccer practice. Each time was completely by accident, and when it happened the third time everyone on my team found it hilarious.
What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?
I like hanging out with friends and family.
What is your favorite sports memory?
I play volleyball and this year I served 10 aces in a row during a game and I was really proud.
What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?
Getting recognized for my sports accomplishments.
