As part of The Idea School’s continued dedication to the legacy of Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, z”l, senior student Yehuda Zinberg, led a shiur at Yavneh Academy to a class of students, based on Rabbi Sacks’s work “A Letter in the Scroll.” In the shiur, students engaged in a discussion, using sources from the book, about whether being Jewish is an obligation or a benefit. The shiur also asked students to reflect on the question, “What does being Jewish mean to you” and then sharing those reflections with the class.
This same question was asked of The Idea School students as part of the Rabbi Sacks project last year. Their reflections, now etched in wood, form the door of the beit midrash at The Idea School. The interactive discussion that ensued with the Yavneh students was both inspiring and thoughtful.
