Harry Glazer’s article with the headline “Second-Generation Survivor Publishes Second Holocaust Memoir,” June 29, 2023) is inaccurate. There are no such people.
My late parents were survivors of the Holocaust. I am their daughter, a daughter of Holocaust survivors. To suggest anything else is a disservice to the meaning of being a Holocaust survivor because I did not survive the Holocaust; my parents did.
I have no problem with the term “descendants of Holocaust survivors” because that is definitely suitable. And while I’m not a fan of 2G or 3G, those terms are somewhat accurate. My problem is with “second generation survivors of the Holocaust” (and I’ve seen it used in numerous publications). Each time I’ve seen it, I’ve made the same comments: My parents were survivors, I am not.
