Varsity Lions Basketball Nets Another Two Games and Looks Toward the Playoffs

On Motzei Shabbat, February 11, the varsity MTA Lions played against the Magen David Warriors. Both teams played with everything they had and never gave up. From the beginning of the game, the fierce Lions and the powerful Warriors matched each other point for point. At halftime, Magen David was leading by one. However, the Warriors were getting tired because their coach had been playing the starting five for most of the game, while Coach Weisberg had switched out the entire starting five at what seemed like random points of the game. While the Warriors slowed down from exhaustion, the starting Lions were full of energy. The final score was 41—32.

Tuesday, February 14, was a special night for the MTA seniors on the varsity basketball team. Before playing the JEC Thunder, Coach Weisberg gave a presentation to honor them and then called each of them up to have his picture taken with the coaches and their family. In honor of Senior Night, the usual starting five were switched out in the beginning of the game so everyone would have a chance to play. Even though the Lions were already in the playoffs, they still gave it their all. At the end of the first quarter, MTA was up, 14—10, and held the Thunder there until the third quarter. What was most special about this game was that every senior had scored at least one point. Again, the MTA Lions were victorious, winning 51—29, with the lead scorers being Aron Saxon, Yitzi Felman and Eli Greunburg, with eight points apiece.

The Lions’ final record is 10 -4. Now it’s off to the playoffs!
