Josh Teplow’s work portrays plant forms as a metaphor for his life journey. Plants begin as simple living systems but quickly mature and become quite complex in their structure. Teplow’s work is gestural and attempts to create an understanding between painter and audience regarding the complexity of life and how we are able to overcome challenges and ultimately flourish.
Teplow graduated with a master’s degree from New York University. For several years he wrote reviews for Arts magazine and C magazine. His work has been selected for group shows in New York City, and he curated the show “Earth, Air, Fire, Water: Nature Statements” for the Arsenal Gallery in Central Park.
“Severed Tree of Life: Paintings, Prints, and Cardboard Montage” by Teplow can be viewed January 2-January 29, 2023 at the Waltuch Gallery (Kaplen JCC on the Palisades), 411 East Clinton Avenue, Tenafly, NJ 07670. The gallery is open Monday-Thursday 7 a.m.-9 p.m., and Sunday until 7 p.m.
