It is hard to imagine a more misguided letter than“Cease and Desist” (June 6, 2024). As a New York Second Amendment attorney who has worked with gun owners for decades, I thought that the tropes outlined in “Cease and Desist” had been put to bed. In June 2022 the United States Supreme Court confirmed that the right of Americans to carry firearms outside their home for their own self-protection was protected by the U.S. Constitution, making guns available to countless people who could not carry them before. Since that decision, violent crime is down. This is not a new or short-lived phenomenon. Read the book “More Guns Less Crime” by Professor John Lott.
Any belief that we are somehow beyond the brutality of the 20th century has been quickly proven wrong by the invasion of Ukraine and the pogrom of October 7. Ask any survivors if they wish they had a gun. Yes, thank God, we live in peace with our neighbors. So did the
Jews of Germany, Poland and the border towns in the Gaza Envelope who were invaded on October 7, who had brought Gazans into their homes. All of them lived in peace, until they didn’t.
As to your point that The Link would somehow be responsible if a person sees an advertisement, buys a gun and somehow misuses it, I assume you are not a lawyer, but no, they would not. Is The Link responsible every time someone buys a car from a Link ad and then drinks and drives, speeds or causes an accident? Obviously not.
Lastly, no, Mr. Moses, I am not concerned that it will give the KKK or the Nazis an excuse to hate me more. I do expect that the KKK and the Nazis are in agreement with you that the best Jew is an unarmed Jew.
