‘Welcoming Home Shabbat’ in Teaneck To Honor Returning Lone Soldiers

Courtesy of Nevut) As our communities face ongoing challenges amid the current situation in Israel, residents of Teaneck are coming together in a spirit of unity and support. In a special event titled “Welcoming Home Shabbat for the Chayalim,” local shuls are hosting a homecoming shabbaton to honor lone soldiers who left their lives in the United States to defend Israel.

The shabbaton, set for next Shabbat, Parshat Ki Teitzei, will feature heartfelt stories and inspiring words from the soldiers and their families. These soldiers, who have shown tremendous courage and commitment, will share their experiences defending Am Yisrael during a time of intense conflict.

Shabbat day will also feature a special talk from the spouses of the soldiers, highlighting the challenges and sacrifices they endured while their loved ones were away on active duty.

The event will culminate with a melave malka and emergency fundraising campaign at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Shmuel Mozorsky, where the community is invited to gather, hear words of chizuk (strength), and be inspired by the personal stories of the soldiers.

The program is especially meaningful, as it takes place during the month of Elul, a time of reflection and unity in the Jewish calendar. It aims to highlight the resilience of the soldiers and the community’s role in supporting them upon their return.

Nevut, an organization dedicated to the well-being of lone soldiers returning to the United States, is at the heart of this event. Nevut provides crucial support to these young men and women, who often face significant challenges as they reintegrate into civilian life after their military service.

Participating shuls include:

  • Rinat Yisrael
  • Bnai Yeshurun
  • Keter Torah

“We invite the community to come together, be inspired, and find ways to get involved in supporting our returning soldiers,” said Rabbi and Sergeant Ari Abramowitz, who served in this war and is also the executive director of Nevut. “This is not just a homecoming; it’s an opportunity for all of us to strengthen our bonds and show our appreciation for these brave young men and women.”
