SAR defeated Frisch 66-53 on Monday night, thrusting the western conference playoff race into chaos. Here’s where things stand heading into Thursday night, January 30:
MTA, Heschel and Kushner are eliminated from playoff contention. The remaining six teams in the conference will make the playoffs.
The 1 and 2 seeds will get first round byes. Three will host 6, and 4 will host 5. One then hosts the winner of the 4/5 game in the eastern conference and is bracketed along with the 2 seed in the east. 2 hosts the winner of the 3/6 eastern conference game and is bracketed along with the 1 seed in the east. The 3v6 winner will play on the road against the eastern’s 2 seed, and the 4v5 winner will go to the eastern’s 1 seed, Flatbush.
Ramaz and TABC stand at 7-2. Frisch has completed their schedule and is 7-3. JEC sits at 6-3. SAR and Hillel are done playing and are 6-4.
There are two games left: JEC @ TABC, 1/30 7:45pm; Ramaz @ MTA, 2/4 6:30pm.
Hillel is locked into the 6 seed as they lost head-to-head both to JEC and SAR.
If Ramaz beats MTA, Ramaz is the 1, as even if TABC wins to also improve to 8-2, Ramaz has the head-to-head tiebreaker.
If TABC beats JEC: JEC, SAR, and Hillel will be knotted at 6-4. SAR would be the 4 due to their head-to-head wins over JEC and Hillel, while JEC would be the 5. If Ramaz wins, it would be Ramaz 1, TABC 2, Frisch 3. If Ramaz loses, it would be TABC 1, Frisch 2, and Ramaz 3, as Frisch has the head-to-head over Ramaz.
If JEC beats TABC, and Ramaz wins, then Ramaz 1. JEC, TABC, and Frisch would all be knotted at 7-3. Frisch split with TABC and beat JEC, so against the group, Frisch would be 2-1 head-to-head, while JEC would be 1-1, and TABC 1-2. Therefore, it would be Frisch 2, JEC 3, and TABC 4.
If JEC beats TABC, and MTA wins, then it would be a 4-way tie for first at 7-3. Frisch would be 3-1 against the group, Ramaz 2-1, JEC 1-2, and TABC 1-3, so it would be Frisch 1, Ramaz 2, JEC 3, and TABC 4.
Whatever happens, the playoffs promise to bring an exciting conclusion to the JV basketball season.
