Yavneh Academy Marks Annual Benjy Schwartz Memorial 5K

Yavneh Academy held its 13th Annual 5K /1 Mile Fun Run on Sunday, November 12, at the Westfield Garden State Plaza. The Benjamin Schwartz Memorial 5K Run and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk is named for the brother of Yavneh parent (and JLNJ Co-Publisher) Mendy Schwartz and drew over 1,000 people who helped to raise over $45,000 for Yavneh Academy.

Rabbi Jonathan Knapp, Yavneh Academy head of school commented, “The run is one of most anticipated events of the year. Where else can children, and adults, of all ages come together for a morning of fun, exercise and tremendous school spirit! Additionally, it allows us to give back to the broader community by sponsoring an event that is professional and enjoyable to avid and amateur runners alike. A true morning of great pride for our beloved school!”

Participants of the event were treated to a pre-race workout with Donna Riker of HNH Fitness in Oradell, T-shirts and a buffet breakfast generously sponsored by local restaurants and businesses. The event, organized by Yavneh board member Amy Buchsbayew, of Teaneck, Yavneh Academy Director of Development, Robin Tare, of Englewood and the 2017 Run Committee, culminated with the presentation of medals to the top runners in the various age categories. Congratulations to the overall winner Chris Benitez age 17, who came in at 17 minutes and 31 seconds.
