In Parshat Ki Tisa, Hashem tells Moshe that from this point forward, he will only see God’s back and will no longer see His face. After having Purim this week, we can better understand what Hashem is saying. Hashem is saying He will be there for us, but we will have to look to see His hand in everything. We can recognize people when we see their faces, however, when looking at the back of a person, recognizing them tends to be harder. It is up to us to see the hand of Hashem in all we do.

I have heard a story of a man who was drowning. A boat went by and saw him. The sailor offered him to come to safety on his boat and he said, “No, God will save me.” Then a plane passed by and saw him. Once again, the man was offered help and the man said, “No, God will save me.” This happened a few more times until he passed away. When he passed, he saw God and asked, “Why did you not help me? Why did you let me drown?” God answered, “But I did help you. Who do you think sent the boat, the plane and all of those things?”

We must recognize Hashem and his help, kindness and love in all that we do. We need to look deep like the Jews of Shushan who recognized that God’s hand was in all the events that had occurred to them. BzH we will be able to see Hashem’s hand in all that we do and all the events that occur.
