Celebrating its one-year anniversary, Lamdeinu feted its establishment and year of success at its first Chanukah breakfast, held at Congregation Beth Aaron, home of the Lamdeinu Beit Midrash. The theme of the morning was honoring the unique concept of Lamdeinu, “Study in depth – be inspired,” and all that it has contributed to the community since its inception.
More people than expected came to pay tribute to Lamdeinu’s dean, Rachel Friedman, as well as many of its staff members. One participant stated, “Lamdeinu has become my extended family. I value the learning and I value the bonds of friendship that I have developed.”
Rachel Friedman emphasized the uniqueness of Lamdeinu, its theme and its message, “Lamdeinu is about the big picture; how what we do every day: our beliefs, our values, our concern for our fellow Jews and every human being, our prayers, our acts of chesed—are a part of a continuous and seamless tapestry.”
Lamdeinu offers classes in Chumash, Navi, Talmud, Halacha, History and Philosophy. Classes touch on a wide variety of subjects but all of them include two related goals: First, connecting learners to their Judaism through high-level, rigorous but accessible and participatory learning, and creating a community that begins in the Beit Midrash but goes beyond it.
Lamdeinu students are drawn from a wide area of the community – from Teaneck but also Riverdale, Brooklyn, West Orange, Monsey and Fair Lawn and beyond, said Friedman.
Supporters noted that the tuition charged by Lamdeinu covers only a small part of the cost because it is deliberately kept low and affordable.
Classes are offered mornings and evenings Monday through Thursday and both men and women are welcome.
Patty Borodach chaired the breakfast committee with a group of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers. For further information and to register for classes, contact lamdeinu.org.
