Responsibility for Pet-Wanting Kids

Dear Ariella B.,

I really want a pet, but my mom and dad said that I won’t be able to handle the responsibility of a pet. On top of that, my older brother just got a pet rabbit. It is so not fair!

Sincerely,

Pet Wanting Charlette

Dear Pet Wanting Charlette,

I know it seems annoying (and it is), but maybe when you are older you can have a pet. In the meantime, you can do something that will make your parents believe you are mature and responsible. For example, taking out the trash or cleaning your room without being asked, or cleaning your parents’ room or cleaning the house. If your parents are not that interested in cleaning, you can study harder in school to get a good report card … then ask. Babysit your little sibling if you have one or just behave when they ask you to do something you don’t really want to do. I think it will help. Consider doing all of the above. I can almost guarantee you this will work!

Until next week,

Ariella B.
